ATL has recently been involved with the Eden project expedition space.

Since opening in 2001 Cornwall’s Eden project near St Austell has established itself as a world renowned regional visitor attraction. Massive Biomes nestled in a huge crater house the largest rainforest in captivity, stunning plants, exhibitions and stories serve as a backdrop to the striking contemporary gardens. This summer will see the Eden Project hosting the ‘ultimate space adventure holiday’ starring a mission to Mars, mini-golf on Mercury and a daring slide down the surface of a moon. ATL was chosen to provide its specialist acrylic forming and installation services for Eden project expedition space feature.

Using our own in house thermo forming facilities our technicians quickly produced a ‘lobster back’ acrylic walk through tunnel. This tunnel will be used to guide visitors through the curving exhibition space within one of the main halls.

ATL tunnels are more normally used in deep water submerged applications but as this was a dry feature, we could produce the tunnel using thinner acrylics. ATL technicians delivered, installed and sealed the tunnel alongside the other specialist expedition space exhibition installers. When completed the effect will be stunning and allows visitors a close up view of the lunar scenery. Eden project expedition Space is part of Invisible Worlds, a major new permanent exhibition that reveals the world beyond our senses. Its centrepiece in Eden’s Core building is ∞ Blue (Infinity Blue), a spectacular new 8.5m sculpture that blows vapour rings.

This was ATL’s first involvement with the Eden project and the team is rightly very proud to have been chosen as the provider and installer of the acrylic walk through tunnels.
